Definately worth reading they list out jobs with salary and educational requirements for a range of jobs, from a Windturbine Electrical Engineer through to a Biofuel Plant Operations Engineer.

Research from Reuters UK in June 2009 revealed that: “Some 68 percent of ‘green’ workers polled in the first ever Carbon Salary Survey said a heightened response in the past few years from government and business to the threat of climate change has increased their sense of job security.”

Working for the Climate published by Greenpeace and the EREC sets out drivers (economic, political, environmental) in terms of the green jobs economy. Some telling statistics in terms of the growth which has been recorded in environmental jobs:

In Germany “The gross estimate of jobs in renewable energy was 278,000 in 2008, up from 249,000 the year before; a 12% increase.” In terms of the renewerable energy sector “The worldwide photovoltaics (PV) market has been growing at over 35% per annum in recent years and it can now make a significant contribution to electricity generation.”

It is interesting to note that legislation plays a signifcant role in driving the growth in green jobs market, for example, the £300m for green jobs training provided by President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
